Spring is here and with it the heralds the annual 'Masterclasses', renamed 'Opera Studio', and the subsequent Spring Opera Showcase, which offers a rich variety of semi staged opera scenes and arias, set into context and presented by a compére, to entertain opera novices, of all ages, and seasoned opera lovers, in equal measure.
James Pearson possesses a ferocious piano technique coupled with a sense of musicality that is rarely heard, making him one of the most exciting musicians to have emerged from the UK in the last 25 years. As well as being the Artistic Director at Ronnie Scotts, where his trio are the house band, he is also a pianist, composer and creative tour de force.
Clonter is delighted to be presenting a recital to be given by Lixin Liu, last year’s winner of the Claire Croiza and Betty Bannerman Award for French Song -established for students at the Royal Northern College of Music. This new well established event in the Clonter Calendar offers a great day out for all the family, from lucky finds amongst the Car Boots to Hand Made Craft and Vintage Clothes Stalls, with other attractions, from Good Old Fashioned Fair Games and a Fortune Teller, to Face Painting and Birds of Prey, with Live Music through the day, from Folk to Opera! A wedding section is being added this year. With a Dog Show to be held this year.
The opera gala consists of a variety of well loved opera arias, duets, and ensembles, followed by some musical theatre classics, in a well established operative prelude to Christmas, and is ideal for anyone who has not been to an opera before, but would like to dip their toe in the water, before committing to a full blown one. Each item is set into context by the director, so no prior knowledge necessary.
